Loading a Storage Vault Container

Household Goods Storage you can Count on!

Count on “goods” storage.

You may wonder what happens to your things after our crew loads them onto our truck. Perhaps the best way to describe it is this: your belongings have a good home away from home. We’re quite particular about how we handle anything in our care. When we return your furnishings, we want to be sure they are in the same condition as when you entrusted them to us.

53 Foot Moving Trailer

Ship Shape! This is a typical 53-foot trailer before loading, with pads and wrapping stacked neatly. Daylight is streaming in through the translucent panels in the trailer roof—plenty of light to work with. When loaded, this trailer will hold 25,000 to 30,000 pounds of furniture and household goods.

Loading Moving Trailer

When we load furniture for transport, we wrap and secure the load as we build it. We want to protect each item from shifting, rubbing, or any kind of movement that might damage it. There is an art to this, and our operators and crews bring the experience that makes it look easy (even though it’s not). We insist on careful wrapping and loading, whether we’re taking a load one mile or 2500 miles.

Loading a Storage Vault Container

If your things are going into storage at our warehouse, we place them inside a wooden vault for safekeeping. Vaults measure 5 ft. x 7 ft. x 7 ft. Each holds approximately 1,000 pounds, or the equivalent of furnishings for an average sized room. We load vaults to eliminate voids (sort of like putting together a 3-D puzzle) and fill in the spaces with packing. This ensures we prevent shifting of the contents when handling them.

Stacked Storage Vault Containers

This is one of our military approved warehouses at our Pittsburgh location. Here, we store the vaults ten deep by three high. We keep about 800 vaults at this warehouse. The documents on the front of each identify the customer and shipment. Each vault resides in a unique location and is cross-referenced via our computer system. We know precisely where your goods are in our warehouse.

Furniture Storage

Leather and upholstered pieces of furniture should not be compressed, so we do not store them in vaults. Rather, we keep them in a special area on racks. Each item is wrapped in plastic or craft paper (leather should not be wrapped in plastic—it needs to breathe). As with our system for locating vaults, we tag each piece and it occupies a unique location on our racks, referenced via our computerized record.
