Are you looking for a long-distance mover to help you with that relocation in Pittsburgh or Cleveland, OH? You may already know what to look for in a qualified moving and storage company, such as checking for a current Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) license, looking at customer reviews, and asking about any additional certifications.

But, you may have overlooked certain additional questions to ask your long-distance moving company. Here's a few extra questions to help reduce confusion and avoid delays later on.

Do You Schedule Appointments within an Estimated Time of Arrival Window?

Many moving companies will tell homeowners that they'll arrive within a window of time to begin packing or moving day. So, if you don't see the moving company truck show up at 8 a.m promptly, and you're expecting it right away that can be upsetting.

Avoid the confusion by double-checking whether your movers will show up within a window of time, such as between 8 and 10 'o clock in the morning rather than at 8 a.m.

Are There Any Items You Can't Move?

Customers may be surprised to find out that their residential movers won't pack or transport certain items. This can be at the movers' discretion or to remain compliant with federal regualtions.

For instance, transportation companies are required to have specific licenses and meet stringent standards to carry certain chemicals, even things like engine oil or household cleansers. Household movers don't typically carry those licenses and won't pack chemicals, paints, cleansers, and even live animals and plants as a result.

Do You Offer Increased Insurance Coverage?

Interstate movers are required to provide a free basic valuation coverage for all of their customers by the FMCSA.

However, you can usually upgrade this to a paid full market valuation coverage for extra protection. Upgrading your moving insurance will ensure that you recoup the full market value of any items lost or damaged during the move. This is ideal for valuables, like electronics, antiques, and artwork.

Can You Move Medical Equipment?

Residential customers may not realize it, but they can also get help with transporting home medical equipment during a relocation.

If you use a hospital bed, patient lifts, CPAP machine, or other equipment your household movers may be able to help you relocate it. Just be sure to ask the movers about it when getting your initial moving estimate.

Do You Offer Document Storage?

Many moving companies also offer document storage services, which residential customers can take advantage of during and after a move.

These services include storage in a climate-controlled facility, inventory management, and even safe disposal of unwanted files. Storage services can vary by mover, so be sure to ask about the specifics before choosing someone to handle your file storage.
